Drum and bass pioneer Roni Size is heading deep underground for what is being billed as the deepest rave ever held.
Drum and bass pioneer Roni Size is heading deep underground for what is being billed as the deepest rave ever held.
On Thursday 15 October, the Bristol DJ will perform in a disused slate mine beneath the mountains of Cwmorthin in Wales, some 1,375 feet below the surface.
Entry is by ballot only, and the lucky winners will need to make their way down dark stairways and zip lines over sheer rock faces just to reach the chamber. No ticket price has been announced.
The setup is as interesting as the location. Vibration transducers will push the music into the surrounding slate, while geophones and hydrophones pick up how the sound travels through rock, mud and water. Those recorded reverberations are then looped back into the live mix, so the mine effectively becomes part of the instrument. For anyone who cannot make the descent, the set will be streamed through G Shock Radio.
