ABLO Picks: Astasu

When we asked Astasu to pull together a playlist of influences, we knew it wouldn’t be boring - but this selection is a proper journey. It jumps from razor-sharp metal to pounding techno, into glitchy electronics, and finally lands somewhere calm, emotional, and surprisingly beautiful.

Things kick off loud and heavy with Mgła, Nile, Vader, and Dimmu Borgir - the kind of tracks that show where the darker edge of their sound comes from. Iron Maiden slips in with “Wasted Years,” because of course it does: big riffs, big feelings.

Then the vibe shifts into the club. Picks from Mike Maass, Niereich, Hackler & Kuch, and Untold bring the hypnotic energy of industrial techno and experimental bass - the kind of tracks that hit you in the chest as much as the ears.

From there, it opens up into electronic favourites like Aphex Twin, Röyksopp, and Nils Frahm, showing the more melodic, atmospheric side of what inspires them.

The final stretch is the wildcard - a run of folk, ambient, and classical pieces from Tenhi, Puscifer, REM, Zaz, Akino Arai, Arvo Pärt, and Joaquín Rodrigo. Unexpected? Maybe. Gorgeous? Definitely.

All together, it’s a playlist that says a lot about what fuels Astasu creatively: heavy music, driving rhythms, emotional electronics, and moments of real calm. A perfect warm-up for their upcoming release on Absolute Loss.
