Native Instruments Marks 30 Years With a Free Maschine Update

Maschine 3.7 adds three sequencing tools built around variation and chance, a random note generator that seeds a pattern based on adjustable odds rather than a blank grid, a Euclidean sequencer with step, fill, and rotation controls that update live as a pattern plays, and a note-event chance feature that assigns probability to individual notes so a loop can evolve slightly on every repeat.

The update ships alongside three expansion packs sold separately. Thirty resamples material from across the company's history into 30 kits and close to 300 drum samples. Paris Heat leans into French house textures, and Rage Circuit is built around trap and hypertrap sound design, with Paris Heat and Rage Circuit priced at 49 euros or dollars each, and Thirty at 30.

"30 years is a moment worth celebrating," said Tim Adnitt, the company's senior director of product management, framing the update as a way to give long-time users new ways to write and perform rather than just another anniversary reissue. Maschine 3.7 is free for existing Maschine 3 owners, with Maschine+ hardware support said to be coming soon.

For producers working outside straight house and trap, the more interesting piece is probably the Euclidean and probability tools themselves. Chance-based sequencing has been a staple of modular and experimental workflows for years, and folding it directly into a mainstream production tool makes it far more accessible to anyone building rhythms outside a standard grid.
