sh maker Hampshire Electronics has announced two new polyphonic synth voices for Eurorack, Apollo and Janus.
BritiBoth are built on the architecture of the company's Vulcan MK2, minus the analog voices, and both are open for pre-order now.
Inside each module sit two digital engines with eight voices apiece, drawing on twelve synthesis types including 6-operator FM, modal, Karplus-Strong string, wavetable, phase distortion, additive and a tonewheel organ. One engine can cross-modulate the other with FM or AM, each has its own multimode filter, and a granular stage processes the combined signal before a set of stereo effects. A 16-slot mod matrix, probabilistic gates and a polyphonic arpeggiator round out the feature list.
The two modules differ in how you play them. Apollo, at 19HP, has a larger display, a main encoder, five knobs and minijack MIDI, and can run as an eight-layer multitimbral synth fed by MIDI or four sequencer tracks. Janus is a stripped-back 10HP unit with no MIDI, taking a single pitch CV and gate and turning it into chords or arpeggios. Pre-order pricing is 329 pounds for Apollo and 219 pounds for Janus, rising to 349 and 239 later. One caveat is that the deeper features live in menus, which some patchers will find a poor fit for modular, and there is no dedicated demo yet.
