reFX's Rippler puts physical modelling in a plugin

Tuesday September 08th 2026

A new plugin synth models real strings, bells and drums instead of faking them - out now at $99.

reFX has released Rippler, a plugin synth built around physical modelling rather than the subtractive synthesis most producers default to. Instead of shaping a waveform, Rippler simulates the acoustic behaviour of real objects - strings, bells, membranes, tubes, hand percussion like djembes and marimbas - across two independent layers, each with its own exciter stage that accepts built-in sounds, user samples or sidechain input. Pair that with dual resonators per layer that can run in series or parallel, two oscillators, 27 filter types (including formant-shifting and vintage ladder options), four LFOs and a built-in arpeggiator/sequencer, and it's a genuinely deep instrument for anyone chasing hybrid textures that sit between acoustic and synthetic. It's out now at an introductory $99, rising to $129 after September 13th, for Mac and Windows in VST, AU and AAX. For producers in dub, ambient or anything leaning on unusual percussive texture, it's worth the look before the price climbs.
