Owners of Sequential's Prophet-5 and Prophet-10 Rev4 now have an unofficial way to add two features the instruments never shipped with.
A free community project called prophet-rev4-mods patches the official firmware to add an arpeggiator and a polyphonic step sequencer.
The arpeggiator offers up, down, up/down, random and assign modes, patterns spanning one to four octaves, tempo from 40 to 300 BPM with tap tempo and external MIDI clock sync, dotted, triplet and swing divisions, and a hold latch. The sequencer stores up to 512 steps, with chords of up to ten notes and recorded velocities, rests and ties, and forward, backward and pendulum playback. Recorded chord sequences can also be run through the arpeggiator.
It is not a one-click install. Users download the MIT-licensed project from GitHub, apply it to Sequential's own Main OS 2.1.0 file using a browser-based patcher, then load the result over MIDI SysEx. The repository explains how to restore the original firmware, and the mod can be bypassed at startup.
A word of caution: the project is not affiliated with Sequential, and the author has only tested it on a Prophet-10 Rev4. The Prophet-5 version has not been tried on hardware, so read the documentation and recovery steps before flashing anything.
