Erol Alkan Teases a Return for Trash, Nearly Twenty Years After It Closed

Over roughly a decade, the party moved through venues including Plastic People, The Annexe, and The End, mixing electro, indie, and rock in a way that helped shape electroclash, nu-rave, and blog house as they took hold across the 2000s. Its early bookings read like a who's-who in hindsight, with LCD Soundsystem, Klaxons, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs all playing sets there, backed by residents Rory Phillips and James Dickie.

Trash closed in January 2007, and its 18th anniversary passed quietly enough last year. This time is different: Alkan posted on Instagram that "there is a light that never goes out," adding, "Got something to share with you, so let's stay in touch." He pointed out that January 2027 will mark two full decades since the night's final edition, and directed followers to a mailing list for whatever comes next.

Alkan hasn't stopped working in the years since Trash ended, running his Phantasy Sound label and occasionally digging up archived sets from the night's original run. Whether the revival takes the shape of a one-off party or something more permanent hasn't been said yet.
