Djrum - I Wander

Fans of Felix Manuel's Djrum alias know that any new release from the UK-based producer is going to be a bleeding-edge, boundary-pushing thing of beauty. He is an artist whose originality seems to extend and expand with every piece he sends out into the world - and whose restless intelligence makes each release feel less like a follow-up and more like a reinvention.

I Wander, released in August 2026 on Houndstooth - the London label that has consistently provided a home for some of the most adventurous electronic music of the last decade - is no exception. For all its structural complexity, the EP functions as a single, unified piece of music - one that morphs, evolves and reinvents itself across its six tracks rather than offering a set of discrete moments to be consumed and moved on from. It demands to be heard in sequence, and rewards that patience generously.

What makes it so disorienting in the best possible sense is the way it refuses to stay still. Delicate piano keys, soaked in reverb and given room to breathe, dissolve without warning into concise, intricate percussion that shouldn't work as well as it does. As a listener you are never entirely sure where the ground is, which is precisely the point - the whole thing feels like being carried across a series of ever-shifting landscapes, each one strange and vivid before it recedes and gives way to the next. Notably, tracks V and VI are presented as a single combined piece, a decision that speaks to how deeply interconnected the material is - separating them would feel like a disruption rather than a convenience.

By the time I Wander VI arrives, its off-kilter percussion almost forces you to stop and reorient yourself entirely - a deliberate and effective move from a producer who clearly has a precise command of where each listener's feet should and shouldn't be. The soft landing of I Wander VII, the EP's closer, arrives then as genuine respite: unhurried, generous, and exactly the right way to end what is a genuinely stunning audio experience.
