The Games We Play commander in chief releases yet another angelic emo heavy EP
For years The Games We Play has been one of the leading lights of promotion and support for the Future Garage, Wave and alternative electronica scenes.
Then TGWP founder Anthony started to release music under the pseudonym 'Magisterium' and the music fan revealed himself to also be a very talented producer.
His latest EP Forlornia is as heavy on the heartstrings as it is light on the ears.
The title and opening track Forlornia eases us in via soft string and pad beds and a haunting vocal sample Special utilises some delicate piano playing accompanying more layered vocal adlibs that provide the goosebump element that I am always drawn in by with 'sad' music. Light beats provide a rhythmic support before guitar replaces piano, then piano replaces guitar.
In the best possible way, Special reminds me of some great 90's chill in the vein of Afterlife or Sven Van Hees, but with Magisterium's trademark sound intact.
Final track, The Ghost of Us could easily find itself used as the soundtrack to the part of the film/show where the protagonist is facing their hardest test, in this instance it leaves the listener wanting more (at least this listener) and let's hope that we get it!
