Twinkleplex - Never Going Out EP OUT NOW

Our first release of 2023 sees us welcome yet another new artist to the Ablo roster.

Imagine Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, Four Tet and Burial had a baby - you would get Twinkleplex.

His debut EP, 'Never Going Out' features 5 genre defying tracks that span BPMs and tell a story of time spent conjuring up electronic delights over lockdowns and late nights.

Opener and title track Never Going Out sets the pace with a crunchy galloping, 4/4 drumline punctuated with distorted bass notes whilst a distant almost piano-like line repeats in the background before the track finally fizzles down to a crackle at the 3/4 mark to take us into...

Bleeplux a haunting breakbeat odyssey - the type of music you could imagine being the mood setter in the background of some grimy backstreet bar in the next instalment of Blade Runner et al.

Track 3, Glitch Burn is a juxtaposition of that signature Twinkleplex distortion and glitch but our first introduction to his ability in inject real melancholy into his music too. The 'wub-wub' bass and screaming pads that fire over and under the tough percussion, alongside the tiny but effective female vocal samples make for a real meeting of the emotional and the energetic (this one is my personal favourite from the ep btw).

If Glitch Burn is the heartache then Triggerd is the light at the end of the tunnel. A sunny, rolling breakbeat(ish) number that should do as good a job on the dancefloor as it does on the headphones. 

As the title suggests Slowjam takes the mood from the rest of the EP and brings the BPM down. A stunningly beautiful and poignant track that keeps the distorted vibe from the other four tracks but sets it on a layer of gentle pads and strings that allows Slowjam to act as the perfect outro the EP.

Despite the name, Never Going Out as a collection of tracks gives you everything you would expect from doing the opposite, the excitement and anticipation that builds in the EP's namesake that opens proceedings, leading into three tracks designed to get your toes tapping and necks snapping. Then finally the gentle outro that is Slowjam possible a track that would soundtrack the walk home after actually heading out again after a long time locked down.

Never Going Out is a real showcase of what Twinkleplex can do, an artist that we hope to have back on label in the future and who, we hope you'll love as much as we do.
